About

I’m Stephen Leng (冷金乘, or Jincheng Leng), a PhD student in History at Zhejiang University, China.

I earned a bachelor’s degree in history at Sichuan University and a master’s degree in philosophy at Wuhan University. I was also a visiting PhD student at the University of Virginia.

My academic interest focuses on intellectual history in the 18th-19th century —especially Kant, Hegel, Schopenhauer, and Freud—philosophy of history, and philosophy of humanism based on the theory of human nature.

In my public writing, I explore cultural criticism, psychology, creative essays, short stories, and reflections on technology. Recently, I have been exploring the relationship between the good life and human nature, and offering critical reflections on modern Chinese culture and modern culture more broadly.

I also organize a series of public discussions and socializing events at Zhejiang University.
